ASH FROM A FIRE
SKIN OF A SNAKE

Install view of "Ash from a Fire Skin of a Snake", in the foreground the side view of a video sculpture in the shape of a tripod with a round oculus sitting atop the base, fabric draped over it, and video projected up on it in tones of blue and green. In the background a video juts out from the wall, a ticker tape of text runs at the top here caught as it runs by saying, "THAT I HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG." At the bottom of the video sculpture is a target with arrows stuck in it that each have words attached.

Ash from a Fire Skin of a Snake (2018) is a video, sound, and sculptural installation that combines ancient forms of divination — such as black mirror gazing, arrow shooting, and water scrying — with contemporary methods of big data and surveillance.

Using Cambridge Analytica’s O.C.E.A.N. algorithmic acts as a jumping-off point, this project features two video sculptures: Water Fears Openness and St. Sebastian's Feelings A–Z.
